Why Do a Sugar Detox

Why Do a Sugar Detox

Benefits of a Sugar Detox

Doing a sugar detox can help to dismantle some of the side effects of eating too much sugar and help with sugar cravings.

You may be dismissing the symptoms of overeating sugar with getting older.  Some of those typical symptoms include feeling achy and tired, no sex drive, and excess weight.   You can’t stop aging and there is a genetic factor in how you age.  But studies are finding that the environment of a person especially the gut environment influences how the body ages.

One other thing you gain from a sugar detox is less reliance on the addicting process foods that you typically consume that end up costing more.  So you might save money during or after detoxing.

Why do processed foods cost more when they seem so cheap? Because of the addiction to processed foods and that sugar is not satisfying for very long in the body.  You crave the food again shortly after having had it or crave another processed food.

Chips weren’t enough, so let’s get the chocolate.  The pasta didn’t fill me up for long so let’s get the bread.  When in actuality if you ate vegetables and proteins and fats the food keeps you satisfied longer.

Why because no matter how much sugar you eat it just doesn’t trigger the hormone that creates the full signal.  So you keep eating more and more.

How to Stop the Sugar Craving Cycle

The way to get out of the cycle is to remove the sugar so your body can reset.  Previously, I’ve talked about fasting doing that as well.   The problem is if you fast and then go right back to eating the sugary foods that you were eating before then you keep doing the same reset every time you fast.  Fasting is great and I recommend it but if you get in a cycle of fasting and then eating sugar you might need a reset in the food you are eating. A good way to do that is with a Sugar Detox.

A Sugar Detox Sounds Hard

I understand that you may be hesitant to do a sugar detox and not want to try.  I don’t expect you to immediately go right into a 10-day Sugar Detox unless you want to.  You can start just by trying out a day of sugar detox.  Maybe you just want to try out a couple of suggested meals that could be used on a sugar detox.  Maybe you need the support of a coach to hold your hand through a detox.

A detox may help you with brain fog and headaches.  It may improve your energy, sleep, and mood.  It could improve your digestion.  The benefits of a sugar detox sure sound good.

What if You Don’t Try a Sugar Detox

Things stay the same in your life and you move closer in the direction of the health you currently have.   You read this because you thought a sugar detox was interesting and something you might want to try.  If it is something you want to try don’t make it hard.  Try it and do your best, where you are, right now.

Ask these questions if you don’t do anything for your health right now.  How will you feel? What symptoms do you have that you are trying to improve in your health?  Will you continue to have gas and bloating, headaches, sluggishness, trouble remembering things, feeling achy and tired, continue to have excess weight that makes you feel bad about your body and lowers your confidence and self-esteem.

Will You Get Results

Maybe you won’t lose weight on a sugar detox.  I recently did a refined sugar detox.  Meaning I still ate carbohydrates that easily turn to glucose like maple syrup, honey, potatoes, and corn.  I didn’t lose any weight but I felt amazing.  I had more energy.  I was sleeping so much better and my head was clear.

Doing a detox will impact people in different ways.  You may lose 10 pounds or no pounds.  You may have changes to your digestion only.  Maybe you will no longer feel achy.  That is why this is an experiment because there is no guarantee that you will lose weight.

Everybody is different and will react differently.  But there is no failure because doing any part of a detox gives you information that you can use to improve your health.  Maybe you learn you can’t stand celery juice alone but really like it with an apple.  Maybe you learn that you like a kale smoothie but not a spinach smoothie.  Maybe you find a salad dressing you really like and can leave behind your current sugar-filled salad dressing.

Where Can I Get a Sugar Detox

You can find sugar detox books and programs out there for fairly cheap if you want to do one on your own.  Mark Hyman has a good 10-Day Sugar Detox book on Amazon.  Sarah Wilson’s I Quit Sugar is an 8-week sugar detox.  Maybe the 21 Day Detox.  You can find many options to try a sugar detox for under $20.

The question is have you done that before.  Got a book or program with no support and not even tried it or given up the minute it gets tough and you have no one to help you through and answer your questions.
