What is EOE

What is Eosinophilic Esophagitis?

Eosinophilic esophagitis is a condition in which there is a chronic inflammation of the esophagus.  Eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, accumulate in the esophagus, and cause injury and inflammation.

This condition can make eating a struggle due to difficulty swallowing and pain. This condition must be diagnosed by a doctor.  Often a gastroenterologist will need a biopsy from endoscopy to diagnose the condition.

If you read about eosinophilic disorders and identify symptoms then discuss those symptoms with your primary physician.  Your primary physician will refer you to a GI specialist if necessary.

A great site to look at if you need more information about EOE is the American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders

My son has this condition and I want to record our journey.  I hope this helps other moms with EOE children to work with their children to help them live well with the condition.

If you would like to know about our journey with eosinophilic esophagitis then continue to the next post on how we learned something was happening.  See My Baby Nursing Every Hour.
